Get another cat. One that is around his age and that isn’t doing what you cat is. If you get a female that would probably be best. That way you don’t have to worry about two males competeing for the territory.

Several things. First take him to the vet for a check up if he hasn’t been in the last year. He is not old but 14 is getting up there so he may need a different food, more exercise, more attention from his family. It is easier to get a covered garbage can and make sure it goes out every night or morning if the cat is going to be home alone than it is to teach him to leave it alone. The peeing could be from crystals in his urine which makes it hard for him to go. Your vet can tell you that and ther is a diet which will help. Make sure his box is clean at all times and even give him a second box. I have had cats that liked to poo in one and pee in a different one.

sounds like he may have an issue with cycstitis.
don’t give him up — that would be cruel if he has been with you this long. Think of it this way … would you give up your 6 yr. old boy because he had problems like this. That is about his emotional age.
The vet can also answer the other training issues — they should be easy to fix.
Cats rarely go outside the litter box unless they have a medical problem.
