I gotta say, your videos are truly great, man. You’re really helping me out with my golden retriever puppy!

    Keep up the awesome work!

I have a 9 month old black lab/ Golden retriever mix. I have tried a few of your training methods but I can’t hold his attention. I tried “stay” and made him sit. Then I put a treat down but he didn’t want the treat. Then I tried “wait” and normally he bolts out the door so I told him to wait and opened the door and he tried to go out so I made a sound and shut it. Then I tried again but the second time he just looked and watched me and then he walked away. Is this normal?

    Sorry… That’s 9 months old… not years LOL…. Where did THAT come from!! :)

Eric, I just have to say, “wow.” This is one of the most simple commands I’ve tried to train. I’m new to training and have started with a 9 year old 50 lb. Canaan/Foxhound mix. “Wait” was easy, and fast!! (not to mention the utility uses of the command) He’s learning this with his crate and the door we use for “outside.” Combined with a leash (because my back door swings outward) the results were immediate! He no longer bolts out the door or his crate (after less then a week of repetition).

Great I live in the country but I have a very busy road in front of my house and always worry about the dogs running out the door and into the street.I’ll try this first thing in the mourning.

good info, hard to find a video without a clicker or somn, voice and body posture is what the dog is responding to..meaning the dog is responding to YOU not a clicker. thanks

my experience is that dogs have their own personalities kinda like people as well, some are harder some are simple to train, its just patience, mine tends to pick on its favourite person :-P my fiance takes a few hours to train a command while I take longer on the same actions.

    Hi Mate,

Thanks for your question. I always start training seperately. It is very difficult to control two dogs at once. As far as them being unhappy they often don’t like being seperated once they have developed a bond, but as I stated earlier, it is much easier to train one at a time. Good luck!

Hi mate, thanks a lot for the video!
My problem it’s that I have 2 dogs at home, one small and another medium size, should I train them together or separately.
Does this by any way make the dogs feel uncomfortable or unhappy?
    thanks a lot!
