First of all, when he go on walks he doesnt’t walk beside me and pulls a lot, also if there are cars nearby he lies down and tries to chase them. Also, sometimes my mom lets him out of the house and he runs around wild, when I try get him he just keeps running from me and doesn’t obey anything I say, Yesterday he found another puppy and fought it, then bit the owner. I think at times the puppy doesn’t understand what is going on. I know that mine was very confused by the leash the first few times I used it on her. Just be patient and be encouraging. I just left the leash on my puppy and walked off and eventually she followed with some coaxing. Then the next step I held on the leash and walked as far as i could and waited for her to come. After a bit curiosity got the better of her and she followed me everywhere…my dog is a boxer though.

thank you so much Rascal understands now that when i stop he needs to slow down, it took like 5 hours to teach him that but it got through to him.
    thanks again

don’t let him keep walking when he pulls. Just stop walking when he pulls, and ignore him until he stops pulling. Or, if he pulls, stop and turn around and walk back the other direction. He will start to understand that when he pulls, it gets the the opposite of what he wants.

first thing you have to do when you catch max in the rubbish is to get a newspaper roll and gentley beat max nose with the tip of the news paper roll and say NO firmly and then dont say anything dont talk to max or praise him just scoop him out of the room, now for potty trainig him is to predict when will the dog has to go usually after play or chewing and ten to twenty minutes after eating or drinking or after sleep and with a leash you go out and when max goes you praise him and give him treat

I would start by posting a text comment to a youtube video about walking a dog on a leash.

cool but how i teach my dog to be free when i say “the word”

  16. kbam2626 on July 10th, 2009

you can also, get the leash (keep calm). If the dog gets overly excited put it back, and continue doing it until the dog stay calm. then lightly praise and put it on. Your dog will eventually learn that calm behavior is the best way to get good things, aka walk…

my basset/beagle mix - put in new harness and wont walk - jsut sits there- wont wlalk with leash on collar either– soon as u try to walk he jsut plants himself - so frustrating- trying to leave harness on him so he gets used to it but still he wont walk on it? wih he would jsut pull me and I can control that but he jsut sits and wants me to drag him-LOL

Through-out the day constantly grab the leash but don’t let her out. Right now the leash means outside. If your picking up the leash all the times it doesn’t mean that anymore.

I am having a big problem with my 2 yr old beagle/lab,I can’t get her to walk around the block, she will walk halfway in any direction and then turn around, she is already overweight due to lack of proper exercise.

How can I get her to walk at least a mile for starters? No incidents happened that would have caused her to stop walking straight ahead.

Dude…. my dog is a hunting dog, a black lab, and i let him off my leash… so don’t think that everyone lives in the city, cause I live in the country.

  23. Soteniliene on July 24th, 2009

You should never let your dog off the leash, anywhere. It’s dangerous to your dog and others.
