Yes it is possible! I know this from experience with an older cat of our own. All you need to do is put him in the litter box. If he does not use the litter box, and messes else where, get stern, but don’t hollar… take him to the mess and put his nose “near” but don’t rub it in (that is very unsafe to do for disease purposes and just cruel) and tell him No, and immediately set him in the litter box and make him smell the litter. He should take to the litter box but if not, repeat the process. Make sure that you clean up the mess he made very well so he does not use it there again.
Good Luck!

Putting your cats nose by it and making them smell it and saying “NO”. That doesn’t work a darn bit. They aren’t dogs here! The best way to start the transition is to keep him to comfined to a certain part of the house (a room) and using dirt in the litter box before litter. Put him in the litter box so he knows where it is. Since using dirt outside is what he is used to, it will be easier on him to recognize where he is supposed to use the bathroom. After using the litter box consistantly for a week or so, let him roam the house and start changing the dirt for the litter. Now, the dirt is going to smell worse and need to be cleaned more often, so I must warn, but it’s the easiest way to ensure he gets the idea.

if given no other choice, he will more than likely use the litter box rather than the floor. outside, hed dig in the dirt, if litter is as close to dirt as he finds in the house, hell probably use it. if he has accidents, try a second litter box, suprisingly, this helps even with one cat who has accidents.

Ive had this problem before, when your cat poops just put the poop in liter box and leave it in there take your cat to the liter box that way he knows that, thats where it goes!
