Sounds, like somtehing a good cutting of his testicles won’t fix. And I mean the cat not the brother.

sounds as though he needs to be neutered. he is spraying to mark his territory and the thing is it is amost impossible to get that smell out…call a vet and ask them the best plan to get this to stop …it may be something simple such as getting him away from the other cats but at 5 years old he is pretty much set in his ways

I adopted my boyfriend’s cat who was doing the same thing and before bringing him home I got him neutered and had no other cats. That stopped him from doing that. It usually does. He was about 4 at the time and is now about 15.

Has he been neutered? If not, having him neutered would help. Has he been tested for physical problems like a bladder infection or kidney disease?
Have asked those questions, (just to make sure those issues are ruled out) it probably is a territorial issue. We had an older cat who lived with us for almost ten years without a hitch. Then other cats or kittens starting joining our household, and before we knew it, she had a real problem with spraying the walls or using the carpet instead of her box.
Once we separated her from the other cats, all those problems dissipated. We have an extra large kitchen with an eat-in area that we can close off. Moving her in there made sense, since vinyl is water-proof and virtually indestructible to things like kitty urine. However, the irony is, once she came off the carpets and away from the other cats, she became the model kitty. She also seems alot more relaxed and content without the other cats around, so this was the best solution for us.
Good luck to you! Hope everything works out.

First of all is the cat neutered? If not, get it done asap. Also if the litter box is sort of small and not cleaned everyday then he might not be able to find a spot to use. I use a large plastic box about 3′ long and 1and a half feet tall. I have 3 cats and they have to jump into the box and when they have a bad aim it goes on the side of the box and not the walls. You can find these at Walmart or Home Depot. Hope this helps.

yes. it is possible. if he hasn’t neutered get him. then if that doesn’t help get a spray bottle and fill it with water, room temp.
then when ever he pees on the wall spray him with it (with out him seeing that you have a spray bottle) and make a loud noise, like hiss or clap your hands.
i hope this helps you

De-sexing the cat will be your first move! Unfortunately in Cats, if they are messy etc, they will usually always be like this. Once they start doing something, it’s very hard to train them out of it…. Maybe one of those BIG littler boxes with the lids etc - they look like a dog kennel….know what I mean? That might help.

Just to note, all these people saying “Is he neutered?” are only half right. If the dog is already a few years old, “marking” isn’t just a hormonal thing any more it’s a natural habit. Neutering wont help solve the problem.
However I don’t have suggestions other than try getting a taller litter box. My cat ( Who was neutered around 5 months) occasionally pees outside his box and it drives me nuts. I’ve tried 3 different boxes and can’t get him to point his butt down :/

A few months ago, I adopted a female cat who was about a year old. She had never used a little box before. I asked many people what to do about it and I was told to use a certain kind of litter that reminds them of being outside. She continued to poop and pee all over my apartment. So, I went to regular litter and went I caught her doing her business somewhere else I would yell at her, pick her up, show it to her and tell her no and that she was bad, then I would place her in the litter box. (I have it in the bathroom). I would then lock her in there with it for an hour or so. She has completely stopped pooping outside the litter box, however… I’m having some difficulting with peeing… I ususally don’t catch her doing it and find it hours later by the smell. I’m trying different spray things currently. I wish you luck.
