Trick Riding and Training?

horse training trick
julia.neigh asked:

I’ve decided that I want to get into trick riding and teach my horse a few things to show off his personallity. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good resources to look into it more such as websites books dvds i know there are tons out there but before i go and blow my money on something i would like to see if anyone else has any reviews or advice.

I am not asking if this is safe or not so please dont preach to me. you do not know me or the circumstances so just stick to my asked question.

thanks :) Yeah sounds good :) my horse is only 2 at the moment so i dont do much riding just sitting on him and lying on his back and that sort of thing. he already knows a couple of tricks like hug, he backs up when i pull his tail and can take things out of your hand and give them back. with my other horse i always ride in funny positions to get my balance up. i stand squat, kneel, side saddle, backwards, cross legged and frog legs etc. im starting to get standing tangent on 2 horses down but thats about it.

I LOVE tommy turvey he is so awesome and kinda what started me on this i saw his show not that long ago and was just like wow

Im sorta starting that too, my horse gets bored WAY to easy,. I have just started one thing to help with balance and trust in my horse, near the end of a ride, I turn around on him and ride and steer backwards. You really have to have trust in your horse for that, my friend says he gives me weird looks when I do this, but it keeps him focused on me and what im doing, which is good.

I would look at anything From Tommy Turvey, he has a website, just google him. HE IS FREAKING AWESOME!!!!! He has three horses-Ace, Poker Joe, and Joker, I have met him as he dated my dads girlfriends friends. he is really nice and he and his horses have a stroin connection.

I have a friend who does tricks etc with her horse, she purchased a book a few years ago, can’t remember the exact title, but it was something like ‘100 fun things to do with your horse’ it had alot of basic principles in it, but her & her horse mastered every one & that started her love affair with tricks.
She has alot of books about basic groundwork training & reads up alot on natural horsemanship techniques.

She also has this set in her book case & others similar to it, but I have seen these ones out on her coffee table often, so she must refer to it quite a bit.

    Good luck :D
